Unwanted hair is a common problem affecting most women to varying degrees throughout their lives and prompting the use of various temporary methods of hair reduction or hair management systems. However Electrolysis is still the only proven method of hair removal and many women and indeed men have benefitted from this trusted treatment.
Electrolysis today is gentler, more comfortable and more effective, offering an affordable modern treatment which is becoming increasingly popular.
WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS?
Electrolysis is a safe, effective progressively permanent method of removing unwanted hair. Indeed it is the only permanent method of hair removal and is therefore in great demand.
With the choice of 3 methods of electrolysis techniques available: Galvanic, Diathermy and Blend there is something to suit everyone. Treatment will be ‘tailor made’ to suit you.
HOW DOES ELECTROLYSIS WORK?
A tiny probe (about the size of an eyelash) is inserted into the hair follicle where a short burst of energy is targeted at the root of the hair. This burst of energy prevents nutrients feeding the follicle and the new hair growth becomes weaker and finer.
After a course of treatments the follicle is no longer able to produce new hairs and complete hair free results are obtained. Each hair follicle requires a number of treatments because each follicle has its own growing cycle. Electrolysis works by weakening the hair follicle and eventually destroying its ability to produce hairs. Results take a little time, but just like dieting, it’s not the crash diet but the healthy eating plan that works in the long run.
The beauty of Electrolysis is that it works on any skin type and any hair colour however it can’t be performed in conjunction with other methods of hair removal such as laser or waxing whilst undergoing an electrolysis treatment plan in the area being treated by Electrolysis.
IS ELECTROLYSIS SAFE?
Electrolysis was first documented by a doctor in 1875 and is proven both effective, permanent and totally safe when performed correctly.
I completed my Electrolysis training in October 2019 with Sterex in Birmingham and I have obtained the correct licensing needed from Central Bedfordshire council to be able to perform Electrolysis from my home salon in Leighton Buzzard.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE FIRST APPOINTMENT?
I offer electrolysis consultations, charged at £20 lasting up to 1 hour which will ensure if treatment is suitable for you and ascertain which method of Electrolysis is best. You will have a chance to ask questions about the treatment and to experience a ‘taster’ of what it feels like to have electrolysis done on the area/s you would like treated plus your treatment plan will be discussed. Important aftercare guidelines will also be explained to help you achieve the best results whilst undergoing treatment.
WHAT ABOUT HYGIENE?
Sterex, single use, disposable probes are used to totally eliminate any risk of cross infection. For each client a new sterile probe is used and you will usually see the individually packed sterile probe being opened in front of you before being inserted into the probe holder. My salon is registered with Central Bedfordshire Council and Environmental Health as a licensed premise to carry out Electrolysis whereby I had to meet strict criteria to gain this.
HOW MUCH DO THE TREATMENTS COST?
Treatment sessions are normally charged in multiples of 15 minutes, Electrolysis is progressively permanent which means you come frequently to start with then the treatments become more spread out until you are coming only 2/3 times per year, after which treatment is said to be completed.
I am the owner and founder of Smooth and Sophistikated. I first fell in love with waxing when I used to do my own pot and spatula leg waxing some 20 years ago. I remember loving the smoothness waxing gives as well as the hair free weeks that follow. When Brazilian bikini waxing started to become popular, I remember having to go up to London to get one as it was the nearest to Sussex where I was living at the time and it being done before the days of hot wax!!! It certainly gave the result I wanted in being hair free but boy did I know I'd had it done! Technology and techniques have evolved and improved so much nowadays. It makes me feel quite humble and grateful that I can now offer better practices to what was around way back when, through no fault of their own, just time.
Sophistikated's History - My transition into beauty started in 2012 when I got pregnant with my first daughter and due to me always having a passion for all things beauty I initially decided to train with CND, focusing on all aspects of Nails. At the time I worked for British Airways and made many happy memories travelling the world, which I did for 13 years. Since starting a family my priorities naturally completely changed and so from enjoying my cnd training so much I embarked on starting my own beauty business. Getting to grips with becoming a new parent, things didn't really take off however until 2015/16 after I'd had my second daughter when we decided to relocate from Essex and came back to my hometown of Leighton Buzzard to be nearer to my family.
Once set up I then trained in other treatments including waxing with Kim Lawless and I haven't looked back. A whole new vigour opened up, blossoming into Smooth and Sophistikated. I made the decision to specialise in hair removal, with the added addition of the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal called Electrolysis. I wanted to be able to offer a more permanent hair removal solution giving my clients a choice enabling them to be hair free for either 4-6 weeks or permanently so that as the hair is treated, regrowth is prevented rather than just removed temporarily, ultimately transitioning into a full spectrum hair removal salon.
Over the next few years I aim to evolve my Elecrolysis offering by going into Advanced Cosmetic Procedures being able to offer the removal of skin tags and thread veins to name but a few.
In my spare time I like keeping fit and active with my husband and two young daughters by going on long country walks, bike rides, eating out and holidays away together. I am very family and friends orientated and love animals, yoga and 1950/60's soul music.
I look forward to welcoming you to Smooth and Sophistikated soon.
